Aisha Tyler was born on the 18th of September 1970 in San Francisco, California. She is the daughter of school teacher Robin Gregory and photographer Jim Tyler. At the age of ten, her parents got divorced and she went to live with her father. Even as a child her main interest was comedy. She skipped classes so that she can attend the local improvisational classes. She also went to the School of the Arts High School in San Francisco. After high school she attended Dartmouth College where she successfully earned a degree in government with environmental policy as her minor. She co-founded The Dartmouth Rockapellas, an all female cappella group.
After Dartmouth she briefly worked in an advertising company. Then she went across the country performing live comedy acts before finally moving to California.
Her first appearance in television was in 2001 as the host of Talk Soup and the reality series The Fifth Wheel. She left The Fifth Wheel the following year and Talk Soup got cancelled. She then went on to do independent projects and this included her role in Moose Mating. She was given the NAACP Image Award for her performance in Moose Mating. She also tried her hand in directing and writing in the independent film The Whipper.
At the same time she had a recurring character in the hit sitcom Friends. She also appeared in CSI Miami and then later on appeared in Nip/Tuck. Following her appearance in CSI Miami, she appeared frequently as the same character in CSI Crime Scene Investigation. She also has recurring role in 24.
